i am a church going, staunch Catholic. i know about the strict rules re: masturbation that we were taught in high school Religion class. However, the desire and urge to have sex by age 16 was so overwhelming that i did begin a lifelong journey with masturbation, which i can say has been my constant companion.
don't get the wrong idea. i am in a very sexual heterosexual marriage, but there are times that i pleasure myself and do not feel any guilt whatsoever. being able to masturbate yourself is a gift. what do we do w/gifts? we use them.
i agree with all the reasons you express in favor of masturbation.
there are times when my wife is not at home or is too tired, etc. and i decide to have solo sex. yes, i do fantasize about other women; that's one of the advantages of the act. it's not betraying the mariage because i'm not really having sex with that person. i call it virtual sex. i set the atmosphere, arrange my thoughts, select my fantasy about this imaginary woman's body and what she can do with it. such rambling thoughts easily bring me to a hard-on. that's when i start touching all the erogenous parts of my body: testicles, penis, nipples, etc. i often yank on the rings in my pierced nipples and the ring from my prince albert
(head of the penis), just to bring those sensitive nerves to life.
Eventually i'll grab hold of my penis and stroke it slowly up and down, up and down, until i reach the point of no return. then i'll stroke harder and faster, trying to suppress the orgasm till i can't stand the wait any longer. this usually results in a more intense orgasm, with substantially more semen being shot.
so, no, i don't believe that masturbation is wrong, dirty, sinful, etc.
i see it as a pleasurable act given to us for self-gratification.

Brought up Catholic but grew. I'm Bhuddist/atheist. This taboo comes from the story of ( not to sure of the name, I'm 80%sure it is ODEN, not the Norse God), anyway the story goes that O's brother died and God told him to marry her and make her pregnant. When he was ready to climax, he pulled out and " cast his seed upon the ground ". To me the sin was disobediance to God not a cu* shot on the ground. It is totally stupid. It is perfectly normal & healthy, so let 'er rip. If it really bothers you, say a short act of contrition and get a good nights sleep. Your thinking is totally logical. If the priest did it more often maybe there would be less of other things.

I agree also that it is a natural, healthy way of releasing your sexual tension that could have gone towards hurting someone.
I always take what religious figures have to say with a grain of salt, they dont know what Jesus said, they dont kno what God said. They only know what someone said that someone said that someone said that Jesus could have might said. I seriously doubt Jesus ever addressed maturbation because he was too busy preaching about important things like love and kindness. Your priest doesnt know everything, he is only there to help you understand the scripture a little better, he isnt the law.

I think anyone who think masturbation is so-called "wrong" is repressed, blinded, retarded, or just plainly repressed.
Organised Religions view masturbation and ejaculation as evil because you are NOT using sex for reproduction purposes. Catholicism wants us to breed more meat for the god worship machine, so every time you masturbate instead of spawning new "slaves" to the cause, it is a sin.
A friend of mine actually admitted to me years ago that when he was a young teenager, he was traumatised by a priest who said this to him: See what comes out of your penis when you masturbate? It's your brains!". No kidding!
Organised religions are often run by selfish evil corporate people who badly interpret a good message in favour of aquiring the trust, and power over, the people. Sex is a sin according to catholicism if you don't do it for reproductive purposes. Sex is to procreate, not pleasure. So masturbation becomes a sin as well since the sole purpose of masturbation is pleasure.
I think anyone who thinks that masturbation is:
- wrong
- a sin
- damaging to your health
- cause blindness, hairy palms, retarded growth, etc...
- leads to sexual deviancy
- perverted, sick, dirty, unhealthy, etc...
... is him/herself a hypocrite, a sexual regressed person, someone who is traumatised or being traumatised / manipulated, etc...
My opinion is simple; masturbation is as normal and harmless as breathing air. It is part of the human condition, and those who say otherwise are perhaps coming from a sexually repressed society. Masturbation isn't just normal, it is fun, and even necessary for any one to discover their own sexuality. TO prevent anyone from masturbating is to prevent their growth.

Cheers!

No i don't believe it is wrong. I know God sees everything, but if your body is going to experience the same results with someone what's the difference if you go it alone? But i don't think you can compare this to molesters and pervs, the churches don't attract them, they are attracted to the church because of the opportunities it affords them.

The Bible says it's wrong.
Also if your using porn or fantasy that would be committing a sin or sins too. Right?
What your dreams are, are not your doings. Right?
Not to my knowledge have I ever heard or thought masturbating, porn, etc would eventually cause anyone to molest/rape.
I think you know all this and are trying to talk yourself into believing otherwise. Right?

As a Christian, I see nothing wrong with it. If there is, we are ALL guilty. Don't worry about it.
