There are all kinds of books that show the different kinds of leaves from common trees. Go to the local library and get out one of those books. The librarian can help you find one.
There are books that show hundreds of different kinds of trees, and some books for kids that just show the most common kinds. Probably you want that kind if your son is in elementary school.
It's fun to know the names of the different trees, so give it a shot!

Can't find leaves or can't find the identity of the leaves? If it's the latter you can ask local people the names of the trees or shrubs before you pick the leaf. You can usually find someone who knows.
