I think this is an age based question. I got my daughter a phone when she turned sixteen and started driving. Once you start to develop a bit of independence, it is time for a phone. It just makes it easier for a parent to get ahold of you or you them in emergencies. If you are younger than that, I believe it is just a toy.

Tell them you were walking home and some older guy started following you. You tried to lose him and couldn't. As he got nearer you tried to run and then fortunately saw a cop who you went to and told what happened. By this time the guy was gone and the cop didn't open a case bec it was just your word. Then tell them all this time you kept thinking to yourself "if my mom wasn't such a b++ch I could have simply called 911 for help. Then sit on your dad's knee and tell him how scared and helpless you felt. Also mention that a sidekick would be the rescue device of choice.

Be late , make it so they don't know where you are. Be late. That will drive them crazy. miss the school bus .Be late . gee mom , if I had a phone I could of called you. what kind of parent doesn't get their kid a cell phone in this day and age. Trust me this will work. my daughter did it to me and I'd rather pay the bill then not know how to get a hold of her. Mom of a 17 year old . she got her phone when she was about your age .

You should have a cell phone in case your car would break down that you could call for help and not have to get out of the car. It's a safety issue for young girls. I don't understand why your mom is against this. All young girls should have a cell phone with them when they go out.

I think it's a good idea for girls your age to have a phone, if only so they can phone home if they need to and your parents can get in touch with you if they need to. You should present this as a safety issue.

Get a job and also be responsible at home and at school. Show them you can pay your own minutes....
If they can't trust you there is nothing to say to them...
