I just started through marriage. We did the first form and sent it in. They said a 4 to 8 week reply and thats only step 1. Then I have to go through interviews and biomedics. Its quite a process.

TO Canada FROM the USA would be called emigration, not immigration.

To leave is to emigrate.
To come in is to immigrate

At least three years to apply for citizenship after being married to US citizen. On your own without sponsorship or marriage to an American, I am not sure.

It depends on your status. If you are U.S. citizen it could take just a couple of month.
If you are a refugee living in U.S.A. it can take a year or more.
If you come as a visitor and apply for Canadian resident status you may be asked to go back to U.S. and apply from there.
