Your information is correct; there IS a problem with this engine. Isuzu has a vested interest, so of course they aren't going to admit to anything.
If the engine has been warm (over-heated) even for just a little while, or if the maintenance has been postponed or unreasonably extended, this engine DOES consume oil.
The only thing you can do for it is to raise the oil viscosity index, and use an oil for high mileage cars.
It won't stop it, but it will slow it down just a little.
As far as the remedy for you,--- you have really two options.
1) Replace the engine (crate)
Don't wast your money on rebuilding this one, by the time you pay for the labor to rebuild it, you can pretty near pay for a new one, and it comes with a warranty, wheraeas if you rebuild the old engine, if the mechanic misses just one little detail, you may wind up with further problems. A good mechanic and shop will stand behind their work, but not for a full 2 years, and besides, you will have do to without your car again while repairs are made.
2) Use this car for a trade-in for another or new vehicle. You don't really need these headaches, nor in today's world have to wonder how long your car is going to be dependable.

Good Luck
