The so-called 'car of tomorrow' gets phased in next season, full-time the following season.
They are generic and all alike. Car manufacturers may well pull out of NASCAR.
In early photos, they remind me of a Barber-Saab.

Remember when stock cars had to be based off of STOCK CARS? There's not one car in Nascar at this time that can even remotely be considered stock. I can remember when the Monte Carlos came back in 87 they actually looked like a car you could get at the dealership down the road and they really were rear wheel drive V8 cars same with the T-Bird, Grand Prix and Lumina. Now of the 4 brands represented in Nascar only one has a V8 and it isn't available as a 2 door.
But as far as your original question goes. No way should Chevrolet change their car. 7 of the top 10 cars in the cup points are Monte Carlos. That means that the 2 Fords and the 1 Dodge are at a serious handicap as far as manufacturers points are concerened.
Nascar already has a series where the playing field is supposed to be even like the car of tomorrow is supposed to do. It's known as IROC.

who cares what 'model' any of the teams run... trying to pretend the car on the track has anything to do with the car you see or drive on the street doesn't make any sense when the NASCAR cars are all running with rear wheel drive.
A Monte Carlo or Impala or Fusion are all front wheel drive cars coming off the dealers' lots.

Remember the only part of th Monte Carlo that is a real factory sheet metal is the hood, green house, rear deck.Everything else is rolled sheet metal that the teams fabricate in their shops.

The Monte Carlo is fine with me, I just wish the street version was RWD. That would be sweet.

doesn't matter...they're phasing in the car of tomorrow during the next couple of years, so the only difference between them as going to be the manufacturers' stickers...
