I agree with Sandra and Sasha. Both Serbia and Croatia belonged to Yugoslavia and now, although politically different countries, they are historically and culturally very close. Moreover, they are speaking the same language, which was called Serbo-Croatian or Croatian-Serbian before, depending on different dialects. The decision to split this unique language on two, was only political and has no any justification in linguistic.

If you are asking which one is better to visit, I can tell you that both are interesting if you ignore recent political problems both were involved in.

Croatia is my recommendation for the summer. There is one of the most beautiful coasts in Europe, with a plenty of beautiful renaissance towns like Split or Dubrovnik and with islands of the unique natural beauty. Don’t miss to try some very delicious Mediterranean meals, wine, cheeses and famous Prsut (a kind of ham). I don't know when you are planning to travel but during the summer, there is a plenty of festivals, carnivals taking part all over the Adriatic coast, including the Dubrovnik Summer Plays – an International theater festival. In the continental part of Croatia, you should see the national park of Plitvice with its cascade lakes with the water overfalling from one to another. A real miracle of nature.

For Serbia, it is better to visit during the spring or early autumn (September) because the weather is very hot in this part of Europe during the summer. Anyway, the summer in Serbia is also interesting. There is a techno festival EXIT, taking part every July in Novi Sad and it is the biggest festival of this kind in the Eastern Europe. Then, there is a BITEF – also the international festival of modern and alternative theater taking part every late summer in Belgrade. You also should not miss medieval monasteries and some of Serbian thermal spas with different kinds of mineral springs… Some of the natural miracles I can recommend is Resava cave in the Eastern Serbia and Devil's Town in the south. And, of course, taste the nightlife of Belgrade:)

I hope you will really enjoy, whichever country you choose. Have a nice journey.

Visit both countries and you'll see which one is better. But both have their own advantages. Serbia have beautiful mountains and spas, Croatia have beautiful seacoast. I'm from Belgrade, Serbia and I can say that we have great night life here. Come and see.

Each have their advantages... I like living in Serbia, but I also like to go to the Croatian coast in the summer... You can't say which country is better, since all the countries in this region have their fair bit of God's wonders on Earth worth visiting... There are so many beautiful places in Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia&Herzegovina, so I suppose you'll have to come and see for yourself...
