I am staying with my daughter and she told me that this morning she had a bout of Diarrhoea that took her by surprise. (Lovely)! Anyway, she is due any day and am I right in thinking that an episode of diarrhoea can be a sign that labour is not far away or on its way? Thankyou. I'm just rather curious.

It can also be a sign of an upset stomach.

When she begins to feel REALLLLY uncomfortable and irritable, then she is in stage 1 of labor.

Her skin will feel so bad that she will want to crawl out of it.

If she is comfortable with it, she might want to have an enema if she continues to have it during labor. If she doesn't do an enema, she will have diarrhea all over her bed when she is done with stage 2 of her labor.

Yes it can be. Loose bowels is a sign of labor, the body is trying to make more room for the baby to come out...but I had that happen to me the other morning where I thought I was just going on the toilet to pee and ended up with an awful case of diarhea and it had continued through the day...this was about 5 days ago...and I still have not gone into labor..I am due the 14th...so don't get your hopes up too much!!

Diarrhea, like many other symptoms can be a sign that labour is not far away. Diarrhea is the result of a surge of hormones signalling our body to eliminate in preparation for labour. It is however not a sure thing. Like losing your mucous plug, having back ache or experiencing an increase in Braxton Hicks, it can mean labour is imminent or a few weeks away. It sound like she is doing fantastic and her body is busy getting prepared. Good luck.

I think it is! When I was in labour with both my sons, I had really bad crampy diarrhoea and then as soon as i moved into the 2nd stage of labour it all stopped, I think its to do with the contractions, losening everything up, inc bowels, good luck to your daughter

Posssibly the lead up to each labour is different. Sometimes the bowels tend to clear themselves prior to labour for an easier birth. Lets hope that's the case and you will be a proud grandparent soon.

i myself theory I had foodstuff poisoning whilst i substitute into in Labour. I had an outstanding variety of diarrhea and then additionally threw up whilst the heavy contractions all started. you do no longer lose your mucus plug slowly. better than probably your water broke and has been slowly leaking by using fact the toddler has it relatively is head in place, like a huge lose plug. you will desire to completely call your midwife or checklist. Due dates may be way off. sturdy success with your labour and new toddler!

It could be. You could inform the doctor about this, but I don't think it is anything to worry about. And as she is so close to her due date anyway, labour should begin anyway.

Good luck and I hope everything goes fine and that soon you will have a beautiful grand baby in your arms (I am jealous, I can't wait until my sons wives, (when they finally decide to get married) produce some for me!!)

It's a good indictation that things will be happening pretty soon. The body tends to clear out all unwanted matter that is in the way before delivery.
I wish her the best of luck & hope all goes well
