Great question and I'm sorry I don't have a great answer but you're right, that is a subject for a pretty good psychology PhD. thesis.

A study of aggressive personality types found they had self confidence that bore no relation to actual competence and a form of narcissism that bore little relation to reality either. They were strongly attracted to gangsta' rap, and while the aggression was not caused by the "music," it reinforced their feelings that they were immune from retaliation for acting on those aggressive tendencies.
