Of course they were better, more quality of life, a better domestic situation. But life has evolved where financial demands are ever increasing and one wage simply doesn't cut the mustard any more! WE seem to have so many more financial demands nowadays and you cannot go anywhere without paying someone or something ... and what with heavy mortgages, high rents, ever costlier utilities and motoring, the situation is likely to get worse. Perhaps the 'good old days' are something that we can only dream about ..... but I wonder how we will view today in another generation or so?

Who says the women stayed at home with the kids and the man went to work? From the beginning of the Industrial Revolution right up to the present day women have been a substantial part of the labour force. Working class women worked in factories, cotton mills, down the mines, domestic service, took in washing and a whole lot more so working class families could just about make ends meet. Lower middle class and middle class women may have stayed at home. A large proportion of working class women just couldn't afford to. No, I don't think the "old days" were better.

Hell no! We women have proven that we can work and be better at it than you men. Half of you that went to work while we stayed home, drank up the whole check before we could even pay the bills so I'm happy the world has evolved the way it has.

I think too many kids are left alone because the mothers are working. I'm not trying to put them down because in todays world it is often necessary for 2 incomes but often it's more because people want material things more than they want to raise their children. I know that your question sounds sexist but I don't think you really meant it that way. I agree with you and think it is best if the mother or the father stay home with the children.

I think a great solution is to mix the old values wih new ways of thinking. I stay at home and take care of all the so called wifely duties. I demand respect and my husband knows I am not his slave. I am very independent and it is our money not his money. I do and go whereever I please I buy whatever I please. I cook and clean and I'm not treated like sex object when he is off so am I and our relationship is alot better now that I stay home he brings home the bacon and I cook it HAHA and everything is done and we don't have to spend weekends doind errands and household chores. I never feel like a stupid housewife I like staying home

yes, i think they were. it is good for a woman to stay at home taking care of the house, kids and hubby and keeping her in good shape. what kind of a woman is that tired horse who keeps running after work to school to get her kids then to store to buy food then to cook it and then she just drops dead at night to start all this cycle in the morning again? what a dreadful life.

i don't know, i mean in those days marriage was like glorified prostitution in a way. the woman provides sex (which was a chore not a pleasure) + the man puts a roof over her head + bread on the table, becaus the woman has no other way of keeping herself
