The motor is probably overheating and it "kicks" out on the overload. You will probably need a new motor. It would help to know how old the dryer is too.

Sounds like the motor is over-heating and going off on "thermal overload". Here"s a couple things it might be. (1) bad motor capacitor--this might be located inside the control head , or mounted to the frame in back. Sorta looks like a black D size flashlight battery with 2 wires. (2) Air flow problem---this could include the vent / hose blocked==blower wheel assy. loaded with lint.--this happens when you don"t use the lint filter or it"s got a hole in it. This can also allow lint to build up inside to cover up the motor and cause overheating that way. (3) bad motor/relay (4) low voltage. Tell the make of machine next time for a better answer. Good Luck.

Maybe the duct needs to be cleaned out - after a short time of running - a clogged duct will cause the dryer to overheat and shut off.

you didnt say what brand, some makers also have a thermo cutout in case the heater gets too hot for any of the reasons others have mentioned already. this is in addition to the motor OL

If it's 10+ years old get a new one. They're like $300 and probably use less power than your old one. I just replaced one and it's a lot quieter than the old one.
