They are alloy with a polished lip. I think the road salt from last winter has damaged them. Now there are these little round spots all over them. Anyone know how to clean them or is it a waste of time?

I was a car detailer fo Ford for a few years. When particles of dirt or road salt get on finishes they can strip away layers of your finish unless washed and dried off immediately. Depending on how deep the damage is, it might be possible to polish it back to the original shine. If polishing doesn't work u can try car wax to restore the shine. On all my customers rims I use wax to help protect against water damage from road salt, acid rain, and other harmful particles. Plus wax will prevent further damage if applied regularly. Chrome rims are a different story. They look good but they are a headache to keep that way.

Spots or pits ? If they're just spots you can find a polish at your local auto parts store. Pits would be a big problem...

You can clean with a chrome/metal cleaner, but they will be back. Sounds like protective coating is gone.
