The life of a hermit comes in many different factors of life and if you happen to choice one of them for yourself you will understand the real meaning of what a hermits life is. Being a hermit is like trying to find the life that you want when you need the time to find yourself and away from the distractions of the world and their problems. This also includes your family and your friends. You survive in this life the best that you know how and you try to figure out what is making you tick and how you and your inner self can survive in to days surroundings. This may mean being out into the woods or some where in complete solitude for a short time or a very long time to find what you are looking for and you will hopefully find it. You look into your soul and mind to find why or what has put you at this place and time to put here this very moment to try and make every thing right. I have seen men from the military or just life become hermits because of things that has happened to them and they just do not want to associate with the real world at this time. They go into a world that they have made and that is safe for them and that only they understand for they have learned how to survive in the this world by all means and even in the woods. They can be a genius or just a fool but they all have God and a spirit guide to help them. Good luck finding your answer.

there are still some left in the US. places like the UP (upper paninsala of Michigan). we have a cabin up there on a lake and the gentilman on one side of us is a hermit. his wife died durring childbirth and the babby died shortly after so he gave up and decided to shut him self up in his house. he still talks to people but you have to realy try to catch him. he was mean to us kids at first but he warmed up after7 years. He says that it is peacefull and he doesnt think that he would be abble to adgust to life now. he is about78 years old.

Solitude is what they seek and that is what they achieve by being hermits, they fend for themselves they need no one.
I suppose it's very lonely though but if that's how they like it...
