According to the CIA World Factbook, which is usually pretty accurate, the population in July 2006 was 22,409,572.

However, there is no legal requirment to register a birth in Ghana so no-one can accuratley say how many people are living there.

At birth every child is issued with a health record card which records the birth and can be used to prove age and to obtain a birth certificate in later life should one be needed (e.g. for a passport application).
