In Windows Media Player, go to Tools->Options->Rip Music Tab. There should be an option under Rib Settings for "Format:" Change this to mp3. If you don't have the mp3 option, you may need to upgrade Windows Media Player, some of the older versions didn't have the option to rip to mp3. Once you have this changed, when you rip music, it should be ripped as an mp3.

Hi Emma,

When you say it has a WMA format, does that mean it is not a normal audio CD that you would buy off the shelf? In other words, did one of your friends make it for you?

If it's not a store bought audio CD, you are asking the wrong question- you want to convert from WMA to MP3 not rip to MP3.

If it is a store a store bought CD, Windows Media Player really is the easiest way to rip a CD to MP3 files. I have written a step by step guide, complete with pictures, on my web site (link below).

In a nutshell, here are the steps:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player- you need version 10.

2. Run Windows Media Player and select the "Options" menu under "Tools." In the window that pops up, click the "Rip Music" tab.

3. Select "mp3" as your format and, optionally, set the quality (I recommend 256kbps for CD quality). Press OK.

4. Insert your CD and click the "Rip" tab in Windows Media Player. Click the "Rip Music" button and you're off!

If you need more details, my article covers a lot more "what-if's" and tells you things like how to find and play the music you've ripped.

Good luck Emma!

To enable file types, open the media player, select tool on the top and go to options, then go to file types and make sure mp3 is checked.

If you need to convert OGG,WMA,WAV,MP3, I have the perfect tool. You can't get it for free any more. Its called Cheetah Audio Converter. If you Email me, I will send it in yahoo messenger. Its 11+ Mb.

Thats no good - What to do is go to www.downloads.com and search for "WAVEPAD" download that (ITS FREE!!) - then when its installed, you can insert a WMA file into that program, and you can then SAVE AS MP3 :-) Try that - Its SIMPLE, EASY, & PRACTICLE!
