Literally read, that book is filled with more intolerance and judgment than any other.

Pls don't confuse the question or statement as being about faith or spirituality. Those are entirely separate things.

I don't hate christians. In fact, I like many. I hate the use of ancient words to justify prejudice, hate, discrimination, and violence. The Bible has been manipulated to that end more than any other book.

I think that people take the Bible at face value and they don't account for the fact that it was written a long time ago. It's impossibl for anything to stay completely relevant that was written so long ago. More wars have been fought in the name of Christianity that it's sickening. Personally, I have no problem with those who are Christians, but it really pisses me off when people use the Bible to put down others.

Is there no room for dialogue? Not all of us who believe in the Bible are the Fred Phelps types. Nor do all of us agree with those "Christians" who take verses out of context to advocate hate. This question starts off on the confrontational assumption that there are absolutely no redemptive aspects of the Bible, regardless of the fact that, sure, there have been some absolutely lousy people who have claimed to be Christians but whose actions say otherwise, but there are a lot of others who never make headlines because they are quietly living lives filled with Christ's love and not putting on a show.

It really doesn't matter what we feel. Heaven and earth will pass away before one jot or intolerant or judgmental tittle is destroyed. You may choose not to follow it, but you will have to account for your life before it's Author. God did not make people queers or twinks, and He (nor I am homophobic.)

I think most homosexuals are heterophobic. (Stick that one in your cap and call it macaroni.)

Homosexuality is sin in God's sight. He is quite plain about it. We can make jokes and call names, but the truth is the truth. I tell the same thing to family members who are practicing bi-sexual and homosexual relationships. I love them, do things to help them when I can, and have even been in a fight for them. I just don't agree with their choice of lifestyle. Just like some people don't like hanging around liars, thieves, murderers or other perversions in people. Are homosexuals evil people? No, I would not say that. They have a sin problem, whose answer is Jesus.

If you hate the Bible so much, you don't have to read it. There are a lot of books in the library that would fancy you these days. The public school system, forcing your views upon us make us have books that we don't want and calling us intolerant.

Listen to you. Where is your tolerance? Are you not being judgemental? The Bible has been around for a long time. Thirty years ago in this country (USA), if you were gay (homosexual, because there is nothing happy about it,) it was like a crime.

BTW- thanks for the two points.

Bashed? no...questioned? maybe. The book was written a LOONG time ago, and by who? People "inspired" by God? So, I could write rubbish and say it was "inspired by God" and that makes my words more valuable than the "common people"? I don't know about all that. I think it has it's merit though. To me, it's just like any other philosophy book. There IS wisdom in it's pages, but just like any other philosophy book, it leaves room for questions and different interpretations. How can we KNOW the Bible as truth? There was once a saying that said "I only know one thing for sure, that this isn't it." True wisdom exists in knowing that we really know NOTHING. We only have educated guesses in my opinion. It takes humility to live in a world that we do not fully understand and never will. Does the Bible provide all the answers? I don't think so. For example: who would YOU trust? Someone who says "I have ALL the answers" or someone who's honest and humble enough to say "I don't know"? For me, I'd rather have someone say "I don't know". Because what's the first thing MOST people do with someone who thinks they're a know-it-all? You have the urge to disprove them or prove them wrong, right? Many people do the same thing with the Bible because of the people who have read it and says it has "all the answers". It's not the Bible itself we should be condemning, it's the people who interpret it and then want us to BELIEVE that interpretation. I believe the Bible was written for PERSONAL learning. We each interpret it in our own way, and I don't believe ANY way it's interpreted is right or wrong, it just IS. People interpret the Bible to benefit their own belief systems and the way they want to live their life. I mean think about it, why else would we have different denominations if the Bible could ONLY be interepreted in one TRUE and CORRECT way?
That's why I tend to focus more on philosophy than on literal dissection of the Bible.

God has the right to be intolerant. We however are taught by Christ to Love one another. Those who call you a sinner, tell them back that they too are sinners, for judging you as one. Matt. 7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."
Those who look down on others because of their lifestyles and beliefs are putting thistles in God's place and only he can determine your fate. Your relationship with God is what matters. The most important part of the Bible is when Jesus speaks. His words are more important than the rest, because they are directly from God and unaltered by man.
We are all sinners. May God Love and Bless you.

The bible is a silly, poorly written book of fables and opinions, most of which have been made obsolete by science. It is used primarily, today, as an excuse for Christians to hate. They always need a reason to justify their ungodliness. Good luck

i don't know about the bible itself being bashed. . . it's very true it has been used as a weapon for intolerance and hate. . . but there are also people who have used it to do good.

it seems to mean many different things to many different people. if it were possible to get an indisputable interpretation laid down, then maybe that would solve some of these issues!

i always got told god is love
so if the people using the biblie to spred hate then it should be bashed
what ever happened to love thy nauhbour
so many things in the biblie have been proven wrong or stupid
for a book made to help a king brain wash his servants it still has that efect to this day loo at the wars in the word and why we fight for what we beleave it all in the tranlation

Bashed? No. I simply don't follow it at all. The other side of the issue though, to the ones who DON'T go bashing Gays...It's time for you to stand up and tell the bashers they are wrong.

After the Fighting stops,
We will not remember the words of our "enemies",
We WILL remember the silence of our Friends.

I do not think the bible should be bashed. It is not the thing which is hurting us. It is the ignorance of the people twisting it to hurt us. We could probably take it and twist it to say anything we want. It is there for guidance, and comfort. People have abused it like everything else which has been given to us.
