Well, I never went to middle school. It was grade school, junior high and high school. But you are talking 5th through 8th grade, right?

Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery was a big one, and Little Women, Little Men and Jo's Boys by Louisa May Alcott. I know I got at least a few of Frances Hodgson Burnett's books too (Secret Garden, Lost Prince, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Little Princess). All those great old books, especially in 5th and 6th grade, because I went to a small-town old-fashioned school in Pennsylvania.

Today, I would start with Harry Potter. You can't go wrong with Chronicles of Narnia, unless some dorky parent claims it is religious (which it is, but only in metaphor). And please include some biographies of interesting people, as kids normally hear only the media briefs about most people. Penguin, I think it is, has a great series by Julius Lester that I found intriguing.

Uglies, Pretties, and Specials are a really cool trilogy.
The True Confessions of Charlottle Doyle is awesome.
A Mango Shaped Space is really unique.
Invisible monsters........not exactly appropriate for middle school but still a fave.

I loved the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when I was in middle school... I think that was probably the best. I also liked the Secret Garden, Heidi and The Yearling.

when I went to college (h.s. classification of '80 3) i did not examine any of those except Huck Finn (a fave) Hiroshima (i did not like what surpassed off to the folk, change into too disturbed through the reality of what surpassed off to be able to respond to even if I loved the e book or no longer... meaning the e book made its aspect on me), MacBeth and Romeo and Juliet. (I loved the Shakespeare.) Favorites, Lord of the Flies, Animal Farm, Lord of the earrings, Raisen interior the daylight, the Scarlett Letter, flowers for Algernon, 1984, pink Badge of braveness Least favorites, delight and Prejudice, because i could not keep the characters instantly. To me, each and every daughter change into like all different, and that i saved getting perplexed who change into who. To Kill A Mockingbird and Catcher interior the Rye... to be honest, I skimmed the Cliffnotes and were given mediocre score on the attempt, and do not keep in mind a lot... except that the Catcher had something to do with a guy attempting to guard the innocence of a mushy lady or something like that. I even do not understand. i'd ought to verify them to be certain if i love them. many years later I examine Ayn Rand's Anthem and had to love it, being prepared on Neal Peart and Rush. i change into already accustomed to the tale from the 2112 album. :-)
