..and pasiflora. It says on the valerian box take 3 going to bed, but I find 8 does the trick!!

You certainly CAN develop a tolerance to both Valerian and Passion flower...passioflora. I know them as "Calmtabs" which I buy through Puritan.com. If you are taking 8 tablets before bed, your system definitely has built up a tolerance to these two excellent sleep herbs. I would say that you do the following to sensitize your system again so you can rely on 3 tabs a night:

For a week, take 5 mg Melatonin nightly with 5 tabs of Valerian/Passioflora.

For the next week, take 5 mg Melatonin nightly with 4 tabs of Valerian/Passioflora.

The following week, take 5 mg Melatonin nightly with 3 tabs of Valerian/Passioflora. By now you system will have sensitized itself to the original amount of the Calmtabs you are taking. Melatonin is a natural hormone that the body produces when it becomes dark outside...it facilitates the sleep cycle. You can buy the 5 mg dosage at WalMart or Target stores.

I take the 5 mg Melatonin and 3 tabs of Calmtabs every night 30 minutes before I sleep. I have not yet in the years I have been doing this had a BAD night's sleep yet. Good luck! Sweet dreams!

Well, you could certainly develop an allergy to it and eventually you will have to quit for a while or it will not be as effective as when you started out.. Try melatonin or 5-htp or generic benadryl or chamomille tea. "Natural" remedies are seldom consistant in the amount of active ingredients that are actually found in any given product. Various labels are better than others. If you found something that helps you then good for you. I have never had 5-htp fail me every since my naturopath suggested it.
