What do I press so that whenever I press space before a word on
word programs ( Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works Word Processor) it doesn't delete what I just typed?

Look at the bottom line immediately after the texts, you will notice that the OVR (for overtype) is enabled. This makes everything you type to "eat up" all words and spaces after where you are typing. Press Ins (Insert) and that overtype status will be removed. They you could type before all words, sentences and paragraphs yet you won't lose any of those already encoded.
