Petria Thomas - Australian female swimmer (now retired). Has had to battle depression during her career, and spent most of her career being second behind Susie O'Neill, until she retired.

Dawn Fraser may also be a good one - she was involved in a scandal involving stealing a flag and being sent home from the olympics. She was one of the last people to carry the olympic flame inside the stadium at Sydney 2000.
