would you be a little upset/angry if he offered you a hotdog with ketchup, mustard, cheese, etc on it? Instead of say, toast or soup?

No, I wouldn't be upset with him. He doesn't know what will and won't make you queasy. Heck, not even another pregnant woman could tell you what will and won't make you queasy, because it's different for everyone. What makes me ill changes from one day to the next, so I just play it by ear myself. But, he may not be that far off track. It may sound unappetising to you now, but the slow-to-digest protein in the hotdog and cheese may have have a better long term effect to keep morning sickness at bay than the quick-burning carbs in the toast or the acidy soup. The ketchup may be a bad idea, though.

You know, I'm curious. They say nobody knows what exactly causes morning sickness, but most doctors assume it's hormone related. I had horrible morning sickness until I realized that it mimicked the exact same symptoms of a sinus infection (i.e. the queasiness, heartburn, acidy stomache, gas, constipation, vomiting, etc, from all the drainage going into your stomache). So, I started using a nonmedicated saline spray to combat my congestion, which I hadn't even realized was as bad as it actually was (and is caused by pregnancy hormones), and all the symptoms of morning sickness went away. Now I'm in my nineth month, and the congestion's getting so bad that the saline spray isn't doing me much good any more, and what do you know -- the morning sickness is coming back. I'm not saying this is your problem, but you might try it. If it works, you won't have to worry about your husband inadvertantly setting off your stomach. If it doesn't, you're not out anything.

Yes, I would!!! Actually, I was. I had horrible nausea and vomiting the first three months of my pregnancy, and then I couldn't stand the smell of meat cooking the other six months. My husband couldn't even eat near me because I'd be running like heck towards the nearest bathroom.

No, I'd think that he didn't really know what to say to make you feel better. I would say generally speaking, when you don't feel too good during pregnancy (wait till the birth) they feel really bad 'cos they know theres nothing they can really do. Bless him, he's obviously trying to keep some humour in it. I know this can be a pain though - I was nauseaus for the whole time with my second.....sorry. Good luck.

No he's just being a male. Think of the women out there who are pregnant and can't get their men to care about it at all. What if next time you said you were feeling sick he said "Well, keep it down- I'm watching the game for god's sake!"

Now that's a bad husband.

My now ex-hubby held my hair for me while I threw up, then offered me crackers or anything else I wanted. He treated me like a queen, plus he had read the pregnancy books with me, ent to all the dr's appointments so he knew or had some idea of what I would be experiencing....too bad he turned psycho about three yrs later.

It's a stretch, I'm having to imagine being pregnant and married!

My answer, prolly yes! I think hormones make ya upset about all sorts of things when pregnant.

Ya shudda smacked him! He should know better. Just reading it made me nauseous AND gave me heartburn!

Congrats on the pregnancy!!

Guys are stupid (I am king of the guys). We rarely understand the pain and discomfort a woman goes through.
I just had a hernia surgery done by a San Joaquin Valley butcher/surgeon, and yes all the horror stories you hear about California doctors is true. They're not worth 1/100 of the value of the smallest of their mansions.
Anyway, the extreme pain my butcher/doc put me through made me wake up to the amount of pain my Mrs. goes through and has made me a heck of a lot more compassionate.

Be patient with your Mr. We are all "retards" but we try hard!

Yes, you have the right to be offended. That's pretty insensitive. See how he likes it when you start not doing dishes, or taking out garbage, or picking up dirty clothes. Then he'll get a clue.
Oh, and when you're so sick you can't be in a grocery store, or cook food... then he'll appreciate how sick you feel.

Yeah my hubby did that through most of my first pregnancy, always playing the lets make her gag game till I finally gave up on holdin it in and let it go right on his fav new shoes. Second preg. it was all about, "Want some soup and crackers sweetie"?He loved it as much as I loved my constant nausea.

And if you were upset, would you say, "Honey, I'm thinking toast or soup might be more appropriate than a hot dog, okay?", or would you go sit down at your computer and post a question like this that tells us all that you'd rather complain than communicate with your husband?
