I sincerely hope not. Of course there will always be those who look to cause trouble, but this is more of a social problem than a football problem.
The authorities do crack down on known hooligans when travelling abroad either with the national team or with their particular league team so now the problem in Europe has been minimalised. Having said that, there will always be the problem of alcohol and provocation from other "fans" and those who keep the peace in those countries. When are English fans going to learn to keep their cool even though they think they are being provoked and when are they going to learn to curb their drinking? The Scots and the Irish have learnt how to behave in Europe, the English are still in primary school.
I have to say that this problem is only a problem for a small minority, but unfortunately everyone gets painted with the same brush. If you're English, you are a hooligan.
What irks me about the question is that the questioner seems to suggest that there is some kind of table of merit for hooligans. How can anyone suggest that these hooligans are better than other hooligans?
If it were up to me, any hooligan who was convicted of causing a breach of the peace, GBH or acts of violence should be sent to the Lebanon or maybe Afghanistan. If they want violence in the streets, well let them go and see the reality. A spot of discipline in the army wouldn't go amiss either.
By the way I am English, I love football and I live in Spain. I know what Europeans think of us. It's not very positive.

read trevor tanners book (available on amazon) which documents the exploits of the spurs firm, it concludes what most firms no although wont admit and that is spurs have the best firm in britain and europe. you have many hooligan books available about other firms some are true but most are sheer fantasy, but trevor tanners book includes an end section which is dedicated to magistrates reports of all the incidents he discusses, so all hes facts are proven, i was heavily involved in this scene during the seventies and early eighties and i know a lot of trevors firm. and just for the record hooligans are in the main intelligent and not bone headed as the media and press would have you believe, nor do they beat up innocent fans (at least spurs never did) that was frowned upon within the firm. we only dished it out to those who wanted the same. i never got drunk or took drugs before a row as that would have weakened me so thats a myth that all hooligans are druggies or drunks, i also had and still have a very good job and all ways prided myself on my appearance. i also enjoyed it it gave me a real buzz and made me proud of who i was and proud to defend where i come from. and although i no longer get involved i have it on good authority that spurs are the best firm by a long way , and teams like cardiff, millwall have all met and seen for themselves just what the yids are about and as for chelsea lolol i wont even waste my breath on them morons and they by the way do hit innocent fans shame on them thats why they have a reputation there scum..

No.
They had their time and good riddance, the days of the big firm are over. It is one of the most enduring myths that Football hooligans only attacked other Football Hooligans, this is not the case. Cardiff Soul Crew now you are having a laff.

When I was growing up it was Chelsea and Millwall that were most notorious and West Ham's ICF were well known as well. Back in the 70's Bolton Wanderers could have been up there as well because they never ran.

If it's true what a couple of you have said about Spurs then I'm surprised. Spurs were never known to me as a hooligan outfit ever.

Nowadays it's mostly pre-arranged which is good for the proper supporters.

It better not. Even so I'd agree on Cardiff's Soul Crew (but people with souls or into soul music would not be hooligans). Those people there were insane in Wales. Hooliganism is just stupid. I mean, seriously, get a life. Plus arm your damned police and start shooting these morons on sight. Land of Eng is just so damned lenient towards these doofs.

I can't see it will ever be as bad as the 70/80s in Britain again. As for the top firm, too many at different times. i would not say Cardiff city was or have ever been the top firm tho, they have allways had a good firm, but not the best at any time.

Fierce fan groups in this sport are a fact of life. Enacting rules to prevent these passionate fans from seeing a game live is a tragedy. Won't be long before the bon bon munching, champagne quaffing dandies are the only ones you'll see at old trafford, stamford bridge or even bramall lane.

I COME FROM ENGLAND AND ALTHOUGH HOOLIGANS ARE STILL AROUND,THEY RARELY GET INTO THE GAMES AS SECURITY IN OUR SOCCER STADIUMS ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD,DUE TO THE TRAGEDY AT HILLSBOROUGH,THIS IS WHY ALL PROFESSIONAL ENGLISH STADIUMS ARE SEATED,I WOULD SAY PORTSMOUTH 7 11 CREW CHELSEA HEAD HUNTERS AND MILLWALL ARE ON AN EQUAL TO CARDIFF,ALL TROUBLE NOW IS CAUSED OUTSIDE THE GAMES WITH PRE ARRANGED FIGHTS

I was in Jumpin Jacks when I met the bloke who reckons he runs the soul crew.
I thought he was quite effeminate. A bit of a girlie really.

Most of these hooligans are total wimps when they are on their own.

It's a shame it still goes on. Only today it was reported that Spurs and Charlton fans clashed yesterday and they weren't even playing each other!!! But research tells me that Spurs have the biggest and mosted feared firm.
