Petroleum and oil is the same thing, their sometimes also called crude oil and are often found in liquid form.

Petroleum is crude, unrefined, and contains oils, greases, gasolines, and other fuels. Gas is usually a slang for gasoline. Gasoline being a liquid. Gas?? Natural gas?? There are many gases used as fuels. Natural gas (usually ethane or methane) comes from organic matter as it decays.
