Why don't we start having equal rights marches?
Single message focused - we are not treated as equals - where everyone shows up in every day clothes with every day behavior to literally show that we really aren't the stereotypes held in so many heads. Seems to me the best way to get beyond prejudice is to literally show how much of it is based in ignorance.
Pride parades and events are great, but those are about much more than basic civil rights - self acceptance and big funky party included. Am not suggesting that we stop them, btw.

Hey pro_choice, ironic that you want what you do with your body to be legislated, but don't support others seeking something similar.

STEPHEN J - marriage is a legal contract recognized by the state that confers tax benefits and other advantages. Many of us have children in case you are that unaware. There's a big difference between religion and legislation. We are treated unequally.

I should have read more of your comments before posting - you simply are significantly misinformed and committing big time logic errors in your "reasoning".

Laws are changing in this country. State for now, but if we can get the people owned by the christian right out of office, we'll get our rights by lobbying like we have been.

I go to the gay pride parade each and every year I enjoy them to me that is the time that I do not have to put up with ignorance and every other week I go out to the parties and just have a wonderful time. I like yahoo answers LGBT but when I get on here truthfully that is the only time that I hear/read all about the ignorance of some people on here that's not living the lifestyle that I am living but I really don't care how they think/feel it's not gonna change me nor is it gonna bring me down I Love being a lesbian and wouldn't change for the world.

WE DO!
Granted, not as often as they should be, but we do.
In 2000 we had the Millennium March on Washington. More than 1,000,000 GLBT descended on the Mall in Washington DC for a Civil Rights march.
GLBT's from all over the country as well as some of our neighboring countries as well. There were events and speeches, a concert {Equality Rocks- Sponsored by HRC} concert at RFK Stadium and a Group Wedding of more than 5,000 couples.
I believe these are held at least once a decade.

Because most of the community won't get off their butts to fight for equal rights, and the remaining few who actually care are either busy working for change politically through groups like HRC or are on here just asking why aren't we. There's no one that's actually going, "Ok, let's march! You set the day! You get the travel arrangements! and you get the permits!"

Absolutely... I'm there! BUT we should be marching for a whole hell of a lot more than gay marriage. This country needs a complete overhaul and if all minorities banded together, we wouldn't be minorities any longer.

Actually no one in the United States listens to anything other than physical violence, burning police cars and pillaging businesses... so peaceful marches accomplish absolutely nothing... sad to say... in fact once the hooplah is over even civil disobedience is ignored and forgotten.

I agree we still need to be more visible and more vocal. there are lots of protests going on out there. writing our politicians (or calling them) is also good. joining groups like HRC (as I have) keeps us all informed. I'm not sure about how to go about having marches. I do love pride fest as well.
but we need to speak up...be vocal...be out there...be visible!

I am not sure if marches would help....and it might hurt your cause. I am straight, but my son is gay, and I support all of you in your search for equality.
I don't know what the answer is, unless you continue to show America that you are responsible and productive persons in this society. We need you too.
