Considering that quite a few attacks have been thwarted and quite a few terrorists rounded up before they could attack... that is measurable improvement of safety.
When answering this question, one must consider the larger picture. Were we 'safer' after going to war against the NAZIs despite the horrible losses we suffered? Yes. Because, unopposed, the danger they posed would have been even greater and their eventual attacks on America would have been all the more severe. The same is true of our fighting terrorists and their supporters now rather than letting them do what they want later.
Terrorist groups had no problem recruiting due to their repeated successful attacks against the US and other countries. Global Jihad brought more recruits than the formal terrorist college in Afghanistan could handle - and they churned out 20,000 graduates in the 1990s due to our failure to fight back.

Lets see...have we had a repeat performance? The judge and jury on how good we are doing in the war on terror is exactly how much terror is happening, and how much terror is being stopped. I'm not saying its perfect now, it never will be, but we are undoubtedly safer than we were on 9/11. If you were to rate our safety on a scale of 1-10, 1 being where it was on 9/11, we are definitely higher than a 1. Don't know exactly where i would place it though.

No we are not. The Department of Homeland Security created a slush fund and made it available to every city, town, village for the purchase of things to keep them safe in the event of attack. Of course, this money was spent on whatever in places that really are not front-line priorities in the war on terror.
What should have occurred was that the money would have been used to ensure air marshalls available for as many flights as possible, the procurement of all necessary baggage scanners and whatever else the airports need to ensure our safety. Then they need to spend that money to come up with a comprehensive means of keeping our ports safe. None of this has been done to a level sufficient to keeping us any safer than we were 5 years ago.
And of course our deeply flawed diplomacy, use of illegal prisons, and use of torture are only helping terrorists to recruit more people to their causes. They don't even need propaganda. We're doing all the horrible things they used to have to make up about us.

no, everyone in the government just wants you to think we are. The only difference between 9/11/06 and 9/11/01 is that now it takes 3 hours to get through airport security rather than 15-30 minutes.

Actually, by Bush's actions, the US is much less safe. This is because, by attacking Iraq, and continuing to occupy the country based on false pretenses (bogus claims of WMD, and making the false connection between Saddam and al Qaeda), the US has inraged more people and turned them into terrorists and terrorist supporters.

SAFER? HELL NO.
Bin Laden waited untill Clinton left office and on 9/11 under the Bush watch he managed to kill 3,000.00 people.
The Bush war in Iraq has killed almost 3,000.00 soldiers.
The one who is still alive is Bin Laden.

Yes, but not as safe as we were prior to 911, the Murrah Building and the Waco fiasco.
