No, it is not being remade, however, on the 16th of this month in syndication they will be releasing reworked versions of the classic episodes. They have went in and replaced a lot of the space stuff and background stuff with fresh CGI graphics. It is much like Lucas did when re re-released the original Star Wars ... it will still be the same old show but with fresher better special effects and much more groovy space battles and such.

I hope not! I am an old timer and love the original Star Trek. You CAN'T remake without the original cast. It was they who made the show into the icon that it has become. Live long and prosper!

Grooming, and Sam have it correct. for the 40th anniversary, it is being relaunched in syndication, w/ updated special effects. the exterior shots of the ships are also being revamped, and obviously any guide wires still visible will be removed.

no, that's not correct
there are rumors of a 'retro' filming using, of all people, matt damon as a young kirk.
But this is not for a series, and is, in fact, for the next film.
besides, why would they do this for the 41st anniversary (*considering the 40th is already upon us*)

They are using original footage and updating the special effects. It should be on later this month. Check the local schedule.
