Never done this before but seen it done it dozens of movies and National Geographics programs and magazines.. find a good smooth-size rock, remember smooth and not rough or jagged. Have some kind of soap, even shampoo, whatever, but not household cleaners or cleansers like Ajax or Comet, etc. Man if you got an old washboard like they used to use in the old days or with an old washing machine, take it along! But back with the old school way, you take the laundry, wet it down in the river water, and you would do well to wash in a river or stream where the water is moving and not sitting still, for better reasons! After wetting down your item(s), one at a time if your doing more than one article of clothing, apply a little soap onto the garment and work in. Next, you scrub the garment over the smooth rock using an up and down motion. Keep the article wet and out of the water. After "scrubbing" for a few minutes each side, or where soiled, take the garment and continue to rinse in the moving water using an up and down, in and out of water motion, with both hands hanging on to garment. Finally, wring out the water from garment by using a twisting motion, or just double up, fold your garment and squeeze out all remaining water. Hope this helps. You can lay out your items over bushes or hang up on tree limbs to dry!
