It kind of means both..because you're tired, which can also cause not enough oxygen flow. But the REASON that you're tired and that you yawned is that you are on a sugar-low, or your blood sugar has dropped. Basically if you eat sugar you get a sugar-high, but then hours later you start to yawn because your blood sugar has dropped and you feel like you have less energy.

Both are the same thing.... when you are tired you stop breathing deeply enough so fail to get adequate oxygenation to the brain. Also, we are biologically preprogrammed to yawn when we see someone else yawn as in the distant past those of our ancesters who took the cue from those MORE sensitive to low O2 than themselves, survived better, healthier and longer in their smoke filled cave or atmosphere full of volcanic fumes....

i yawn when I'm tired... but maybe when your tired, you breathing gets slower and ur brain gets less oxygen.
