12i =an Imaginary number, where 12i X 12i = 12i squared = -144.

Since you can't multiply two negative numbers together and get a negative number you can't get the normal square root of 144. Instead you have to rely on imaginary numbers, numbers that are not on the standard number line. Imaginary numbers are not in the set of Real Numbers and aren't much use to you until you get into advanced math.

Don't ask me what -(12i) is I only got up to basic calculus. I also don't know how to use imaginary numbers, that's for higher mathematics.

The answer is 12i. The i is really the square root of -1 (an imaginary number), which you need to take out of the 144 before you can find the square root. The square root of 144 is 12, times the square root of -1, which is 12i.
