Problem statement: ask a question. You are looking for a question that will be answered if an appropriate experiment is performed.

Hypothesis: a guess at how a given procedure will turn out.

P. Are heads and tails equally probable?

H. A series of coin-flips will trend toward 50% heads.

or:

P. Are some Y!A answerers so desperate for points that they will post answers like, "Duhhhh, I can't remember, if I ever knew. What was the question, again?"

H. If I check the records of the next 10 users that post bandwidth-wasting answers, such as the excellent example from straight_a_blonde above, I'll find a majority of "best answer" percentages in the single-digit range (such as the 3% that SAB currently maintains).

hypothesis is your personal opinion about something. Your theory. So whatever the problem statement is just write that there, and what you think of the problem or what you would call it.
