it's pretty much the same as in Italy or Spain, i like it very much, although i've never lived in another country. it is very different from life in the US (i have friends who recently moved there) or in the UK.

By all accounts Modern Greece only got into EC Europe because of its strategic position. It remains the most decripit, corrupt country in Europe. The people are lazy, charming, dishonest and utterly inept.
They have failed to produce a writer, musician or scientist of note for a hundred years. Their schools are laughable and wealthy Greeks educate their children in English public schools. Employment is hard to find, unemployment is high and underemployment also common. The state is burocratic and the civil service unhelpful.
They have allowed appalling tourist developments on their islands and Athens is disgustingly polluted~so much so that they have devised a scheme to cover the whole of the Parthenon under glass.
Their security services are an international joke (look at their recent interment of British trainspotters) as is their hilarious merchant navy.
To their credit the Greeks are often extremely hospitable and kind, with excellent food and a sense of irony about the mess they are a part of.

My parents just moved to a village in Crete and its fantastic, the kind of place where people leave their doors unlocked and the kids run free with the whole village watching out for them! But this is a rural village I think life in say Athens is pretty much the same as life in any big city.

Obviously some people cannot understand that the Mediterranean countries have a mentality totally different compared to the rest of Europe or the US.
Too bad!

it's just another southern eu country, slightly below the eu average regarding its economic performance, but beautiful, sunny and with fantastic food. athens is a slightly chaotic city, much like rome.
