The REAL Gothic art burn in the XIV century in Ile de France, (Paris) and the main expressions are the glassed stained windows with catholic icons, the big Madonnas and small saints in the paintings in a golden background.
The garment was made with velvet and a lot of buttons from the waist to the neck.
The women used to wear big hats in cone or horns with a mesh of silk.
The poetry was part of the chivalry also the tournaments.
The best painter of this period was Giotto.
The best icon of Gothic is the Notre Dame in Paris and Saint Chapelle.
The light was a sign of God, that's why the buildings (castles and churchs) were so high to reach him.

Well in the historical sense, the Goths were from the area that is currently North-Central Germany. The term Gothic in the modern sense is used to describe a particular tyle of architecture that was in its prime from the Middle ages until the Renaissance. It was characterized by arches, ornate detail, and excessiveness.

I don't know much about the Goths but I think that the Gothic style of black clothes and pale faces is an English inspired Victorianesque thing.

Being goth has nothing to do with what clothes you wear or music you listen to, it is a way of thinking and seeing the world. The clothes that goths wear and the music that goths listen to is just a reflection of that mindset. Goths see that there is extreme pain and evil in the world, along with the good. Instead of condemning it or ignoring it, goths accept these things as a part of life and try and enjoy the good along with the bad, since they can't stop the bad from happening. They are not obsessed with death, they just accept it as an inevitability. They do not try and cause more pain in their (or anybody else's) lives, since there is plenty to start with. Goths tend to be kind, intelligent, non-violent, emotional, and artistic.

This is my impersonation of a goth:
"I have no soul, no soul! I'm falling forever in this deep black hole. And no one cares about me, becasue I have no one, to save me from this dark, dark world. I'M LIVING WITHOUT A FRICKING SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
To all goths, I'm sorry, but that's how all the goths I've ever met are like.
I think goths take depression to the extreme and make it worse then it really is. Come on, do you live without a soul? It's ridiculous, and it's pretty sad to see someone look at they're life that way. Thy're just.......dark people.
THEN AGAIN, THAT'S HOW ALL THE GOTHS I'VE MET ARE LIKE, SO DON'T SEND ME SPAM!

I do know that the goths were Christian activists (which is against the Bible's teachings) and were warriors who conquered many people. I doubt that they wore all black, though.
