If you're just selling it for the value of the metal, don't waste time polishing it. It will have to be cleaned again anyway in order to be refined or used in order to get oils and such off from handling.

Silver is rather a soft mental and you would be polishing off some of the metal. It is better to leave it tarnished for that adds weight. As to how much silver would be lost, it would not be much per item, however the more items the more loss.

you would remove a few thousandths of a gram, but why bother?
