generally speaking i prefer if my best answers are picked souly by the person who made the question rather than any sort of open vote..the points encourage people to actually answer the questions so i appreciate them and they make me feel like im achieving something even though im not

I like the system. The points make it interesting and kind of motivate members to keep answering. Voting for best answers is also good because it let's people know that you took the time to read their answers. Many of us,ask and answer questions as a way of helping and being helped by getting different opinions. I don't believe it to be a waste of time.

points are a waste of time and if you dont give a best answer you should be kicked off as people have gone to a lot of trouble to think ,and answer when they could have just gone yes or no ,

The purpose of the points is to get us addicted to y.answers. You are constantly striving to get to the next level. And yes people should vote for their own answer if people went to the trouble to answer their question.

Some people use the point system as an incentive to answer questions.

I like the points, but I don't really know why...just another way to waste time I guess. I should get a hobby.

Yes they should, and I hate when they do not leave a comment when picking you as the best answer!

I dunno. I guess it's OK. I think a good thing to do would be to list those people who have the highest percentages of "best answers" - that is, the participants who have the highest quality, not highest quantity.
