This is a personal choice - you do not NEED one - however, it is advisable to maintain clean, neat appearance when you are dealing with the public AND - you need to keep clean for obvious sanitary reasons. Nurses are prohibited in our state (OH from getting fake nails as they harbor bacteria.

Just keep your hands and nails very, very clean...But if you really want too then I don't see any harm, just you sheading some $$$ out you really did not need to.

It never hurts in to have clean beautiful hands. If you met me it would matter.

As long as your hands are clean and your nails are clipped short (not so short they bleed) and are also clean, you'll be fine.
