Take a good look around, can't you see something that can be done. Help can come in many form; didn't you see how people came together when the Tsunami hit. How they came together on 911, how about Katrina. Open your mind, and the rest is history.

Well in todays world, most people have the misconception that you can only give "brand new and expensive" items. My feelings are, We are a nation of wasteful people.I have seen people throw things in the trash that still look new. Many people receive gifts they never open and end up throwing away. Why not have a community drive to collect used items they no longer want or can't use any longer. Some will donate money to this sort of cause.Do this as a group, After items are collected, have volunteers that will wash the clothing and bedding, someone may have donated a table that has a few scratches. Have a couple of volunteers that are knowledgable in sanding and varnishing wood. Use cash donations to buy the products needed for this and for doing the laundry.( As the laundry is wash dried and folded it should be seperated by "boy/girl/child/toddler/infant and adult male/female and packed neatly into boxes. Then you can either contact resourses for people in need or take the items to local churches and or shelters.
The main thing to keep in mind is that people that are "truly in need" have pride too and while they will be very appreciative of your caring and the work you've done, be sure all clothes are in like new condition and not stained or torn. Give to them in a way that won't add to their feelings of desperation, don't take photos of people handing them clothes etc.
Keep in mind these very people would probably be happy to volunteer a few hours aweek in helping others!

OK I'm long winded but this has been an idea I have had for many years.
Empty the prisons and open them for the homeless. Teach the homeless how to grow their own food while giving them shelter. Educate and train those who are capable of returning to society.
How do you clean out the prisons?
The people on death row who volunteer harvest their organs for people dying on transplant lists this saves lives while giving murders and such a way to repay society.( this was proposed by Dr Korvikan (sp?) in the early 70's) Take those strung out on drugs but not real criminals and give them treatment that they need, then immigrants that have committed serious or violent crimes send them back to their own country if they can't abide by our laws. You will cut back the amount of prisons needed to stay open and save millions every year. While opening up housing that is needed by many people. Sorry if I offend any one.<><

Help them find a way out of their misfortune. Many times it is a result of bad decisions, so it might take a series of good decisions to finally succeed. Don't just feed the hungry, help them find jobs. Don't just donate money to charities, volunteer your time and energy also. There's kids out there that come from homes plagued by drugs, poverty, divorce, emotional/physical/sexual abuse--be their comfort and support by spending time with them. And if they're in foster care and you're old enough, adopt them.

basically, you donate what you don't absolutely need. expand on that. tell about the guy who isputting in lights where there was no light, talk about Angela jolie and her charity that, when she sees a need, fills it Talk about the people who run soup kitchens, and make blankets and hats for newborn babies in impoverished countries. then talk about helping one person at a time
