Please, no smart alec answers about states of amnesia, confusion, perplexity, etc. They don't have stars on the U.S. flag.

I want a state with a good, growing job market, a good education system, friendly, hard-working people, a relatively low cost of living and high quality of life, natural beauty, and proximity to recreational areas. Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Utah, and New Mexico are some of the states I'm looking into.

Every state in the country has something unique, charming, distinctive, and nice about it, so I mean nothing personal toward the states I didn't mention. Thanks!

I live in Georgia and it is friendly, relatively low cost of living, good location to recreation activities, especially if you live on the coast like I do. Good quality of life style and a growing job market especially if you live in the Atlanta area. But then, the trade offs are what you usually get in the large urban areas like no one has time to talk with you and our school system is not one of the greatest. I am a georgian via Idaho, which is another great state, especially for the recreational things, like fishing, skiing, boating, hiking and has one of the largest primitive areas in the country. Haven't been there in 25 yrs, but the school systems were pretty good then. See, I learned to type!!! You need to write to the states chamber of commerce that you are interested in. And yeah, they will tell you only of the good things, but it will give you a good idea. Good Luck

I live in Illinois. The Chicago Public School system isn't one of the best at all if you have kids who are school aged. There are some pretty good colleges here though and a variety of jobs. Cost of living isn't cheap so you'll probably do better to look into some southern states like the ones you listed, I've heard good things about Georgia, Texas, and Arizona as far as being good places to live and the cost of living being cheaper.

I'd live in one of the Carolinas. They are pretty, seem to have a good economy and aren't as pricey as California and the New England area. I'm currently a Michigander and hate the cold, long winters and the economy is terrible. Hopefully we'll be getting a new Governor soon who can help change some things. I think Michigan's biggest problem is that there isn't much here. The lakes are nice, but the weather is so bad that you can't enjoy the outdoors like you'd like to and jobs are scarce. Tennessee is nice, but slow moving, not fast paced at all. Good luck!

I grew up in Tulsa it is the pretty part of the state, rolling hills and rivers, I don't recommend the rest of the state like around OK city. I think it is smart to ask around here before you move gives you some realistic idea of what to expect, I will check out the other answers, I am thinking about moving South also.

I just moved to GA and wouldn't recommend it.

Jobs are available in Atlanta itself, but I live 24 miles from the city and work for chump change because the commute is 1.5 hrs. Traffic is beyond congested here.

The school systems are abysmal. So if you have kids, expect paying more to live in a decent school district or have the expense of private schools.

The heat was to be expected, but it's still terrible.

Everyone says cost of living here is good, but it was on par or a bit more than NE Ohio, from where I moved.

Georgia

I've lived in TX all my life and it sux....socially very backward.

My pick is GA, because it has all those things and then some and my personal favorite reason: I could go to all the Braves games and hon, IT'S MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL THAT TX!

So why haven't I moved? Am on a fixed income and can't afford to move.
