Im looking for a good science project having to do with music

strings. Tighter gives you higher frequencies (pitch). Heavier gives you lower frequencies. Harmonics when you force the string to vibrate differently from what a free string would do.

You can use guitar strings. Need a device that allows you to apply tension to the strings (a guitar can do that), and to measure it (a guitar cannot).


You can use other objects than strings. For example metal plates also vibrate (xylophon) but the theory of vibrating rectangular metal plates is more complex than for string. This being said the set up for vibrating plates is easier. And you can even make a few yourself, playing with thinner / thicker metal, larger / smaller plates.
