This can happen, however it happens only rarely.
Usually a twin is easily seen on ultrasound - usually because there is a second heartbeat or perhaps too many limbs or heads!
Once in a while it can be missed.
On the other hand, it might be that you just have a high hcg level (or even wrong dates) and that you do not in fact have a twin.
A repeat ultrasound with a good look for a twin is a reasonable thing to do.

There are other things besides twin gestation that can cause elevated hCG. Still, getting a second U/S is the best place to start. If there's one baby and it looks healthy, amniocentesis might be worth considering.

It happens more often that you'd think. My sister had twins, and she didn't know until they were born. One hid behind the other at every ultrasound she had, and their heart rates were the same, so an extra one was never detected. Best of luck to you, and if you are, get ready to buy all that stuff over again!

drugs isn't an actual technology - no longer something is decrease and dried, black and white. this is all colorations of gray. Did you spot 2 babies on the ultrasound? i'm guessing you probably did no longer. often times one hides in the back of the different, or is basically on the incorrect attitude to be considered top. It happens. Be happy they don't seem to be telling you some thing terrible is incorrect with your infant. That got here approximately to my pal - whilst her daughter grew to become into pregnant, the radiologist referred to as her and informed her there grew to become into some thing incorrect with the child's heart, so as that they necessary to do extra tests. They did the tests, and each thing grew to become into advantageous - there grew to become right into a shadow or some thing on the ultrasound that confirmed as a illness.
