I would just go on holiday before I mentioned it and while I am away I would work out exactly who would get what I would keep enough to pay my bills and enjoy life a bit more.
Mind you a million would be useful but its not a fortune anymore.
There I go getting greedy now.

My mother is well-off, but my sisters could use the money, so I would definitely consider it "family money". After taxes, I would give them about 20% each. I would be generous with friends, paying for some special occasions, evenings out, etc. THE TROUBLE WITH MONEY IS IT SEPARATES PEOPLE. I put that in caps because it's unfortunately true, and it's important to do what you can to keep the people you care about from developing resentments.

I'd give as much as was needed to make everyone I love more comfortable and stable. If I kept it all, I'd only waste it on selfish, frivilous things. I'd give lots to charities too. I'd open up food banks in areas where there were none, and try to give to people who needed it. That would definitely make me feel better than just keeping it. I could buy everything in the world, but I'd still be me, and I'm not a selfish person.

I have both parents and three siblings, so I always figured I would give them each 10% (20% for Mom and Dad together), which still leaves me half of it and the assurance that my family is provided for.

You do realize that taxes would take a chunk of it?

I'd give 1/2 to my children and grandchildren. the rest I would put into my annuities for an income for life.

sort my house, sort my car....everything else can go on friends and family....i'd love to play a game, take up their time or money in some way and reward those who dont let me down....you know like hey im rolling in it, come help me buy a car.....find a nice expensive one they like and at the last minute hand over the keys.....or go looking at houses and get that "wow you lucky wish i was gonna be living here" kinda reaction then bam - you are!
