You have the right to obtain any information that they used to screen your application under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

#1 Call the landlord and ask for the names of any tenant screening or credit reporting bureaus that were used to screen your application. If they refuse or don't cooperate, send a certified letter and notify them that failure to respond places them in violation of the FCRA.

#2 Contact each bureau and request a copy of your report.

#3 Correct any information. The most comment mistake is for someone else's bad debt or eviction to be mistakenly associated with your record. If you have a common name, you are particularly at risk.

Might be discrimination. Ask for the specific points for which they down-rated you; if they pulled a credit report and used data from that, they are legally obliged to say so and to identify the reporting agency. But the simplest thing to do is to seek a different apartment -- there is plenty to choose from in almost any market. And if the management of a particular unit is being a horse's **** about a rental app, they may be a horse's **** about fixing a problem later.

maybe 'cuz u've only been in your current home for 1 year. 1 year is only about a break even point for a landlord. they need people who will stay longer in order to make any $.

I would certainly be asking someone in an official capacity those questions. That is just not right.

No............I think maybe someone has the same name as you, or else they got your application mixed up with Someone else's. Politely ask them how you can find out what happened.............and don't start that racist stuff............

I don't think that you should start the racist junk. It's annoying.
