barnsley finished third but didnt get promoted cos it was only two up two down at the time. the FL wanted to extend the amount of teams in the first division and instead of promoting barnsley they voted this team in (dodgey or what?)

I think that was Arsenal wasn't it?

Actually they finished 5th but were elected to the first division in 1919.
