Need a History book for a term paper. History from 1865. Best ?

Any suggestions on a great history book for my term paper. I need it be interesting to me but it can not be a fictional novel or anything like that, nor can it be about a current politician.

DOes not matter which topic, I would just like a few suggestions on good, intersting books about US History at any time from 1865 to now.
