On the show Mythbusters, they tested a bunch of different sodas and found Diet Coke was best at reacting with Mentos, though the difference wasn't huge.

Their experiments aren't always very controlled, but they did seem to determine that in additon to lots of carbonation, both caffeine and nutrasweet (aspartame, right?), help with the reaction.

Because regular coke actually tastes good when you pour it in your mouth. Diet coke does not, so it has no other purpose. Why use champagne when boxed wine will do?

Because Diet Coke has a lot more carbonation than regular Coke. So the you get bigger fountains.

good question...
mentos has an anti oxidant that seperates saturated fat and sugar that triggers when it is mixed with caffene. there for keeping the caffene an separating sugar and fat. Diet cokes are sugarless and produce caffene still so wen u get it all together u get a fat free sugarless drink that still produces caffene. hope this helps!!!

because coca-cola company is advertising the Diet Coke as well as mentos by its manufacturer

because once you do the little trick, you can't drink the soda, it ruins the taste. since diet coke already tastes like crap, you're not missing out on anything. it would be a waste of perfectly good liter of coke

diet coke is easier to clean up afterwards .... less sticky because it doesn't have sugar like regular coke (the sugar makes it an awful sticky mess after the explosion is over with)
