anyone kno how to beat level 8-3 in the original mario brothers?

yea, when you're small, it get's fun! i mean,... hard!

in 8-3, there wasn't a lot of places where the hammer brother was able to get on a higher brick.

they were usually the same ground level as you.

after they throw a few hammers, there will be a pause in their madness. at that point, you can run in and dance with them.

yes. dance with them. you'll be next to them and they'll be moving back and forth. you need to move back and forth too, so that they don't touch you, and the hammers dont' hit you either.

then when they jump, RUN! RUN past them!!!

I agree with Jim.
but it much easier if you last against the first two sets of hammer bros. that hand around the two brick line areas
The first set for a mushroom around the right side and then a flower against the second set around the left side.

The thrid and fourth set are in the surface area. If you are hit along the way, then wait and time the moment for the hammer troopers to jump and then run like mad. Be caurful that you don't spend too much time waiting for the right time to move, because they also don't have much paitents and will come towards you instead.

Oh yeah...each set has two troopers each. And use the trooper shells to your upmost advantage.

Ahh, what a great game, beat it many of times. Anyways best way to beat those pesky guys is with fireballs, for the ones on the bottom level, then run under the guys above you and hit the brick they are on to kill them. If you're small the only way is to run close to them so they throw the hammers over you and wait for them to jump up one level then hit the brick they are standing on..... But yeah fireballs make it much easier. Good Luck!
