The Mohorovicic Discontinuity was discovered in 1909 by Andrija Mohorovicic , a Yugoslavian seismologist. Mohorovicic realized that the velocity of seismic waves is related to the density of the material that they are travelling through. He interpreted the acceleration at depth to be caused by a compositional change within the earth, with a much denser mantle being present beneath the crust. Through careful calculations Mohorovicic determined that the basaltic oceanic crust and the granitic continental crust are underlain by an olivine-rich mantle rock such as peridotite.

No one. It has not ever been seen. It has been postulated according to geophysics, meteorites and xenoliths, but that is all.
