Ok an anwer from a real citizen here;

First of all, lets discuss the economics, standards of living, health etc

- Egypt is a developing country with a per capita income of $1,400, which is low. Living standards are below average. An estimated 40% of the population is illiterate. Things are not that great here, but they have been improving for a number of years. Income per capita used to be $740 back in 2001, there is improvment.

- We need to be fair when it comes to the government. A country with 70 million people, no oil, no significant industrial edge over other countries, it is simply not easy. It takes time to improve the quality of life and this will not happen over night.

- Health care - ok the health care system is not sufficinet. If you depend on the health care, then it is useless. If you can afford health care, then you are in the right place. Egypt has some of the best doctors and hospitals in the region.

- Money - well, again most people are not making enough money, but if you are a university graduate with the right experience and post graduate studies. You can make as much money as you make anywhere in Europe or America. I know of a few people who came back to work here after holding senior position in law and investment banking firms.

- Discrimination? no, it is no big deal here but nepotism is an issue and I would consider that a type of discrimination.

- Freedom, it depends on what u mean by freedom. I lived in Europe for a long time and I do not feel I am restricted here. Press can write about anything, there are elections although their fairness is often debated. To be honest I feel in a free country.

Hope the above helps u.

I was about to answer your question when I read Fozio's answer and I honestly think that it would be difficult to give a better, more accurate answer. I also admire the way he didn't resort to trashing the government like so many Egyptians I know who just like to complain that it's not doing enough, forgetting the kind of load it's carrying. A fair and constructive answer that goes double for me as a middle class Egyptian citizen.
