i started my period in the end of december/early january of this year (2006) it was irregular like anyone who has just started, my last period wasn't even much of a period. there was a little blood at first then it was just discharge. my periods aren't really much of bleeding anyway, more like just clots, sometimes i'll bleed but not steadily. i just started today and there was blood, but no bleeding. i hate this because i REALLy wanna use tampons because i am in highschool ( yes, i started late) and since we don't have any time to go between classes i have to go during class. and pads are so much bigger and uncomfortable. but i can't use tampons if i barely bleed! it makes me mad that i can't just have a regular period... i don't even mind having it come late or early as long as i have a regular flow... please help

Just a suggestion....even if you are not sexually active, you can use birth control pills to regulate your period. It should do it on it's own after a few months but in the meantime maybe talk to you ob/gyn & see what they say.

It is normal for a woman's period to be irregular in frequency and flow for any length of time when it starts so you are completely normal.
Be sure to use small tampons if you don't have that much of a flow and a panty liner or very thin pad in case your tampon leaks before you can change it to prevent embarrassment. They even sell boxes of tampons that have 3 different sizes so you can pick depending on your flow. I don't know if you know about toxic shock but read the insert in the tampon carton before using. If you can, use pads (big ones) at night so that you aren't continually using tampons.
I had a similar experience and never knew when my period was coming, stopping, how heavy or how light it was....the worst part was it seemed to come when I had a pep rally and had my cheerleading uniform on so I'd have to go to the Home Ec. dept. and hide-out until my skirt was washed and dried.
You are not alone and things will get better for you.
The clots ARE normal as menstuation is the expelling of the uterine lining through the cervix and then the vagina. You are expelling tissue which accounts for the clots.
It is never a bad idea to see a doctor when you have health concerns, but I don't think anything you have said is abnormal since I have experienced it and known others who have too.

You can use tampons. Get the Junior/Lite absorbency (I've found that grocery stores don't have them except in the Multipak. But I get mine at Target). Use pantiliners for backup, and change it at lunch time. You might even be able to get away with changing it after school instead, as long as it doesn't leak at all (do not leave it in longer than 8 hours, ever.) Just try not to use them until your period actually starts - use light pads on the days when you're waiting for your period.

Rather than using tampons I'd suggest you use menstrual cups.
Tampons are not at all safe for your vaginal health because they absorb fluids, prevent your vagina's cleaning functions, give bacteria a place to multiply and put harmful chemicals into your vagina, thus why they are the most harmful menstrual option available and why you are advised not to use one without heavy menstrual flow.
There are far more options than just tampons and pads.
Trust me, you don't want to use tampons, people may try to tell you that you are a 'little girl' if you wear pads but that is not the case, if you do a little research online you'll actually find why so many educated women refuse to use tampons.
Menstrual cups however are either made out of plastic, rubber or medical grade silicone so they can be left in your vagina for up to 12 hours without leaking or risk of any infections or other ill effects as you would get with tampons so far more hygienic as well as more convenient. Menstrual cups can be used when playing sports, swimming, and softcups can even be used when having penetrative penis to vaginal sex. Menstrual cups are also much better for the environment and far cheaper than tampons.
You can get either softcups in the likes of Walmart (Instead also offer a free sample from their web site) or you can by bell-shaped cups from health stores or online and if you don't like them you can send them back for a full refund.
http://www.divacup.com - Silicone bell-shaped menstrual cups
http://www.mooncup.co.uk - Silicone bell-shaped menstrual cups
http://www.lunette.fi - Silicone bell-shaped menstrual cups
http://www.keeper.com - Rubber bell-shaped menstrual cups
http://www.softcup.com - Soft plastic diaphragm-shaped menstrual cups
Irregular periods are normal and so too are light periods like this, 'clots' are also normal – what you are seeing is not actually clotting, your menstrual blood has fewer platelets than normal blood so it does not clot in the same way, the bits that look like raw liver are actually larger pieces of your uterus lining.
You may want to talk to your doctor just to make sure everything is ok, however be careful as many doctors are ignorant and often also lazy so will try to put you on hormonal birth control rather than find out what the problem is and treat it – hormonal birth control does not regulate your menstrual cycle, it suppresses it, meaning it only covers up any problems and can cause other problems for you if you are young.
Another idea is to try to regulate your periods yourself, this will help make them easier to predict and perhaps heavier that will make your periods easier for you to deal with – things such as taking daily evening primrose oil or black cohosh.
[Note - I'm a woman, not a girl]

I am a woman not a girl ,hope that's OK .
low body fat ,over activity, not eating a good diet ,and thyroid problems are a few things that could be wrong and are fixable
you need a blood test to check for these things and the doctor can give you what you need . I would also be concerned about the discharge.a GYN can get you regulated .

You might want to try an alternate product called "Instead". I get in in the feminine products section of Walmart. Basically, it is a disposable "cup" that sits about where a tampon would, but it can be left in for up to 12 hours since it catches fluid rather than absorbing it.
Might be very useful since you do not expel much...yet. You might also try keeper.com. I have never used that product, but have heard good things about it.

properly Autumn, let us know first how previous you're. besides, the proper ingredient to do might want to be to easily tell him your pal thinks he's fantastic and may want to favor to get to understand him more desirable proper. Ask if he's seeing every person, and if no longer, are you able to offer her his #. THEN back away so as that he would not initiate questioning you're the most well loved female, except it truly is what you want. be careful being a matchmaker. each so often, this can blow up on your face.

First of all tampons are not healthy and cause allot of female problems but I used them myself so I do know what your talking about. There is really not allot you can do go to your doctor and explain the situation because it could be a real problem that is causing this to becoming a major issue. I don't know how old you are but sometimes going on the pill straightens out these kind of problems .

This type of blood flow seems to be something that happens quite often at the onset of menstruation. A friend's daughter seems to have the same problem. I would recommend going to a gynecologist. Try to find one that you are comfortable talking to about your problem.

technically you can use tampons. just use the ones that are really low absorbency. or now they have these things that look like little bowls that slide in there like a tampon but are just as comfortable and they're not big and bulky like pads.
