it was a 2 stroke , 3 cylinder that came in a 500cc and a 900cc I think. Anyway, I ended up with one and wondered what it would be worth. Are they a collectors item?

The Kawasaki tripples came in 350, 500 and 750. The 750 - 2 stroke tripple is one fast bike. It'll smoke a Yam R1 in the quarter.
Yes it's worth big bucks.

Ask in a Yahoo user group. I'm sure someone would want it.

I kinda disagree on the value. The 750 (and 500 to a lesser degree) was an incredibly quick bike but handled so poorly it was borderline dangerous. The 750 especially made very little power until about 6 to 7000 RPM then all hell broke loose. Great motors-poor motorcycles. The 900 was a Z1 four cylinder four stroke. A real groundbreaking bike at the time. I've put a LOT of miles on these bikes. I haven't ridden a bike in 22 years but am considering the FJ1300 Yamaha.

There is still some interest in these as drag race engines.

Your best bet is on ebay - and check pricing on parts - because it's usually better to part these out then sell them complete.

And yes, I agree, they were one horrible handling machine! Scary doesn't even come close to describing the 'bed spring' effect that chassis had.

Fortunately, the center piston usually stuck before anyone could really get hurt.

Ah, the 'good old days', when bikes had character, and bikers always wore comfortable walking shoes!
