I have been giving my grass more than enough watering but ever since i cut my grass and applied a weed herbicide i have started to notice that my grass blade tip ends are changing yellow (a very prominient yellowing). Can someone explain to me what is happening?

It appears the blades may have been cut improperly because when i look them over at a close range i see they look torn rather than cut. Interestingly my mower blade is brand new and i bought it two months ago. I will be using a hand file to sharpen the blade and may resolve the tearing but i am afraid there might be something else that is causing this yellowing.

Any ideas? I was thinking maybe my lawn needs aerating or maybe the weather is changing colder (but we are still getting good summer weather).

Sounds to me like your mower blades might be dull if the the grass blades appear torn. Sharpen and rebalance the blades or replace them and that should cure your problem. Good Luck !

Too much H2O will also cause grass tips to yellow...watch your weather and get a test on the phosphates, nitrogen, acid level and other elements. Contact your local extension agency and they can help...good luck

check your mower blade is on in the right direction. if it is upside down the blunt end of the blades will be tearing the grass .
